Please can anyone help advise me of good travel insurance companies. I am having problems obtaining travel insurance. I had to cancel my plans to visit my son in Taiwan last year due to uncontrolled RA and would be so disappointed to lose out on another holiday. I am booked to go on a river cruise in the Moselle valley, Germany which would also involve coach travel through France and Luxembourg. My holiday is booked with Shearings and I first tried to obtain insurance through their linked company. They said they could not insure for the RA as I am waiting for tests. I explained that my chest Xray was a routine check as I am due to start on Mtx again and the hand ultrasound was to check progress of the RA (i.e. neither of these tests were aimed at diagnosing a new condition) but they would not budge. I then phoned Columbus. I told them I had a diagnosis of RA and Raynaud's and that my consultant suspected a 2nd connective tissue disorder and had tested for lupus, not found anything in the blood but was treating me for 'lupus type symptoms' and waiting to see what develops. I was told that they would not be able to insure me for lupus or any overlap connective tissue disorder because it was technically under investigation. I have decided to be completely honest with the insurance companies as I was so ill last year and if I get that ill again whilst abroad with no insurance cover I would really be in trouble. I don't mind paying a high premium to cover overlap conditions. Help please, best wishes from Naomi.

Thanks Dorothy. I phoned the NRAS helpline and was given a list of insurers recommended by other NRAS members. I phoned the first one on the list called Travelability and was immediately insured with no problems....so panic over. I would have been absolutely gutted if I'd been unable to have my holiday after RA has robbed me of so many other things in my life. Woohoo, I'm going on holiday and I'm really happy. It's just the boost I need. Best wishes to everyone, and I hope you are as well as you can be with RA. Naomi x

Hi Naomi

I'm glad you found a solution to getting travel insurance. We suffer enough without being denied a holiday. I hope you have a lovely time.

Love Shirley x
